Palomar Outdoor School
{Palomar Outdoor School} The Palomar Outdoor Education Program offers 6th grade students an opportunity to spend four days/three nights at Palomar Outdoor School, on Palomar Mountain at 5,000 feet elevation. The program is the culminating year of a three-year curriculum focused on diversity and integration. Students are provided opportunities to apply the five key concepts to real-life situations.
Curriculum focuses on character development and isaligned to 6th grade science standards. Learning extends beyond the classroom through inquiry based lessons and activities such as hiking, pond biologyand fire making. The outdoor learning experiences increase appreciation of nature, encourage exploration and investigation and offer a better understanding of how personal choices and behaviors affect the planet.
Students live with, learn from, and befriend others with whom they would not ordinarily interact. These invaluable life experiences foster independence and prepare students to live and thrive in a multi-cultural society.
